Families,
There have been many tragedies in our country over the course of the last several months. Some have been natural and some not. Our school psychologists, counselors, and social workers are always available to your students during the day, but there is no substitute for honest conversation at home with your kids about today’s world. With that in mind we wanted to provide a couple of family resources to help with the dialogue. Ultimately it is each families choice to determine what is the best way to communicate with their children about all things, but we wanted to provide tools if need was there.
- The resource “Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers” It is published by The National Association of School Psychologists. (www.nasponline.org)
- “Talking to children about terrorists attacks and school and community shooting in the news” IASSW (IL Association of School Social Workers). It is published by The National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement. (www.schoolcrisis.org)
Best,
Mr. Darnell
