Hello! I hope that your summer has been restful and that your families have had some time together! We are getting very close to Middle School Softball tryouts and I would just like to share some information about those dates and program expectations.
Tryouts will run from Monday, July 24th to Wednesday, July 26th. At the end of tryouts on Wednesday, I will meet with the players to discuss their status on the team. We have a very large group of girls trying out and a maximum of 18 spaces on the roster. It is very likely that 4 to 5 more players will be asked to stay on as a part of the team as practice players only which means that they will practice with the team but not participate in games. In the past this has been very effective in building the skills of younger players.
Those wishing to tryout MUST have the following in order to be eligible to tryout:
- Signed Concussion Sheet, Concussion Sheet Page 2
- Medical Release Form
- Insurance Verification Form
- Signed and Up-to-Date Physical
- Copy of Insurance Card
- Emergency Contact Information
Tryouts will begin promptly at 8am therefore players should arrive a few minutes early to ensure that they are prepared. Players need to have a glove, cleats, softball pants, a visor or sunglasses, water, and a pair of tennis shoes in case we have to move inside due to weather. At this time face masks are optional but are recommended. A variety of experienced softball coaches will be available to assess fielding, batting, pitching and catching, base running, knowledge of the game, coachability, leadership, and teamwork.
Once the team has been selected, the season will go by very quickly! All games and practices are mandatory unless illness or a family emergency occurs. Please look over the schedule when planning future appointments, etc. to make sure that your athlete will be available for the entire season. Please note that this is the most up to date schedule but as we get closer to games it is possible that some changes may occur. Additional information regarding team policies and the pay-to-play form will be sent home once the team is selected.
