The Gibson City Community Band will kick off its summer concert series on Thursday, June 1 at 7:30 pm at North Park. All concerts are under an hour and are free to attend! It’s a great activity that gets the family out of the house and best of all, it’s free! We play music from a variety of different genres and time periods. Old big-band jazz? We’ve got it. 80’s hits? We’ve got em. Theme from “JAG”? …Surprisingly, yes we’ve got it.
We’re also teaming up this year with the Chamber of Commerce and providing after-dinner music for the Fish Fry on June 15. Come eat between 5-6 and hear some great live music at 6:15.

The​ concert will be split into two portions.
The choir portion will feature grades 6-12 and will begin at 2:​00​ pm in the High School gym.
The band portion will feature grades 5-12 and will begin at 4:00 pm in the High School gym.

​There will be an intermission between the two portions of the concert, during which time guests may view the artwork on display. The Art Show will feature seniors from Mr. Stone’s Art 4 class.

This year, we had 3 students selected for the ILMEA All State Choirs.  The audition process for these choirs is very difficult, and selection for these ensembles is one of the highest honors a music student can receive.  Sophie Hafer and Lauren Duquette were selected for the All State Honors Choir, and Rachel Harmet was selected for the All State Choir.  They will have all-day rehearsals on January 26-27, and perform in concerts on the 28th.  If anyone is interested in attending these concerts, they will be held on January 28th at Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic Center, beginning at 1:00 pm (All State ensembles) and 3:15 (All State Honor ensembles).  In addition, Rucker Parsons was selected from many applicants in Illinois to attend the Future Music Educators Seminar during the same time period.

 

Congratulations to  these fantastic students for their achievement.

The Winter Concert and Art Show is this Sunday, December 11 at the High School.

The choir portion of the concert will begin at 2:30 and will feature students in grades 6-12. The band portion will begin at 4:00 and will feature students in grades 5-12. There will be an intermission in between, during which guests are encouraged to view the artwork on display in the main lobby and commons.

The Symphonic Band will close the concert with Sleigh Ride. Band alumni and community members are encouraged to bring their instruments and sit in with the band to play Sleigh Ride.

Our school district is fortunate to have so many talented students involved in the fine arts. Come support them if you can!
