GCMS Senior Parent and Financial Aid Awareness Night

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School will host a GCMS Senior Parent and Financial Aid Awareness Night on Wednesday, September 26.  The first session will cover basic information for parents assisting their seniors as they navigate the final year of high school and the College and Career planning process.  This GCMS Senior Parent session will begin at 6:00 pm in the GCMS High School Media Center and last for one-half hour.  The Financial Aid (FAFSA) session will begin at 6:30 and is designed for all students interested in continuing their education at a Community College or University.    All interested parents and students are encouraged to attend.

If you need financial aid for the 2019-20 school year, you have until June 30, 2020 to submit the FAFSA, but you should file your FAFSA as close to Oct. 1, 2018 as possible to improve your chances of qualifying for the most grant, scholarship and work-study dollars.

The featured speaker will be Ms. Pam Lytel, Associate Director of Financial Aid at Parkland College.  She will cover the financial aid process used at all post-secondary institutions.  Information for students and parents will include the different types of financial aid, including the FAFSA, scholarships, grants, loans, student work programs, and military programs.

Admission and financial aid professionals across the state are offering their expertise to potential college students at dozens of events throughout the state.  Students and parents are invited to attend one to find out about applying for admission to colleges and to learn about available financial aid options. Workshops can be located at CollegeZone.com.  At FAFSA Workshops, students and parents can complete financial aid applications on site, with the assistance of financial aid experts.

These are great opportunities to learn about the financial aid process and to ask questions about how to fund your college education.  Please contact the GCMS High School Guidance Office if you have any questions.  The telephone number is 217-784-4292.
